RCMP in New Brunswick have arrested a second suspect in connection with the murder of a man in Geary, just south of Fredericton.

Police responded to a 911 call at a home on Branch Road at approximately 12:45 a.m. Wednesday.

When they arrived on the scene, they found the body of a 61-year-old man.

Police arrested a 47-year-old Geary man at the scene without incident, but a second suspect had fled the scene.

Police issued a release Wednesday afternoon saying they were looking for a man from the Halifax suburb of Spryfield in connection with the incident.

Police arrested the 24-year-old man in Burton at approximately 3 p.m. Wednesday.

“We were looking for a person who was connected to that murder and this afternoon that person was arrested without incident,” confirms RCMP Cpl. Chantal Farrah.

Forensic experts spent the day combing the scene for evidence, enlisting the help of a K9 unit on adjacent properties.

Neighbours were reluctant to comment on the incident, but one woman told CTV News she was scared that a murder could happen in the typically-quiet neighbourhood.

Another woman said she heard what she thought was a gunshot, but police aren’t saying how the victim died.

“The cause of death is under investigation and we’re not releasing any details about the exact manner,” says Farrah.

Police say the suspects and the victim were known to one another but wouldn’t expand on their relationship or say why they were in the home.

The 47-year-old suspect is due to appear in court to face a charge of first-degree murder.

The second suspect remains in custody.

The victim’s name has not been released.
