A 37-year-old man from Sandy Point, N.S., has been charged in connection with a stabbing in the community over the weekend.

Police responded to a weapons complaint at a home on Sandy Point Road just after 9 p.m. Saturday.

When police arrived, officers found a woman with significant injuries had fled to a neighbouring residence.

“The investigation indicates the 56-year-old woman of Sandy Point had been assaulted with multiple weapons by a man known to her. Officers learned that she had also been assaulted by the same man on January 3,” reads a news release from the Nova Scotia RCMP.

No one else was inside the home at the time of either incident.

Police say the suspect was located a short time later and arrested.

Officers also searched the home to collect and seize evidence.

Matthew James Jackson has been charged with:

  • two counts of attempt to commit murder
  • forcible confinement
  • three counts of possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • assault
  • uttering threats

Jackson was held in custody and appeared in court on Jan. 6.
