Prince Edward Island RCMP says a woman has died following a head-on collision in Hampshire Sunday night.

Queens District RCMP, the North River Fire Department and Island EMS responded to the two-vehicle crash on Route 9 (Colville Road) around 5 p.m.

Police say it appeared an SUV crossed the centre line and collided with a pick-up truck.

The driver of the SUV, a 47-year-old Queens County woman, died while being transported to the hospital.

A youth and a woman travelling in the truck suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say no one else was seriously injured in this collision.

Route 9 was closed for several hours while an RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene. It has since reopened.

Police say their investigation is ongoing.
