RCMP charge man in relation to alleged attempted robbery

RCMP in Yarmouth, N.S., has charged a man following an attempted robbery on Monday.

Police responded to the robbery at a pharmacy on Starrs Road around 11 a.m.

According to police, a man brandished a knife, threatened employees, and demanded prescription drugs.

When officers arrived, they found 46-year-old Garth Samuel Makarowski of Yarmouth leaving the business and arrested him. Police say he had a prohibited “butterfly knife” in his possession during the arrest.

Makarowski has been charged with:

  •  attempted robbery
  •  unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon
  •  possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  •  two counts of uttering threats

Makarowski was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
