RCMP in New Brunswick say they are investigating a man's death after he was allegedly attacked by a male deer.

Police say they were called to a residence on Route 17 in Saint-Léonard, shortly before 8 p.m. on Sunday.

They say the 55-year-old man had gone into a fenced field near his home to tend to a herd of deer. When he failed to return home and didn't answer calls to his cell phone, his wife grew worried and called police.

An officer discovered the man lying in the field with severe injuries, and no signs of life. Paramedics and a coroner attended the scene and the man was later pronounced dead in hospital.
