A Halifax couple finally got their special wedding after their original nuptials had to be postponed when a fire broke out.

Michael and Nancy Rogers had to be evacuated by police after White Point Beach Resort in Liverpool, N.S., burned down just an hour before guests were supposed to arrive.

“I don't think there's anyone out there that could match what happened to us on our wedding day,” said Michael Rogers.

The wedding made international headlines, even appearing in an opening monologue on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

The couple ended up getting a second chance to make their nuptials special after winning a radio contest that invited listeners to share their wedding day disasters.

Michael and Nancy renewed their vows on stage during Neptune Theatre’s current production of “Stag and Doe.”

“A lot of the jokes that they were making and things that happen just brought back memories of us planning our wedding four, almost five years ago now, so it brought back a lot of good memories,” said Michael Rogers.

“We were watching the play and we were laughing with each other because some of those things just really remind us of planning our day and how things happened,” said Nancy Rogers.

With their wedding anniversary coming up later in the year, the Rogers’ say they've got even more warm memories to reflect on – along with a spark that's still apparent nearly five years later.
