Ryan MacDonald

CTV News Atlantic Journalist

Sydney

Ryan MacDonald is a videographer out of CTV Atlantic’s Sydney bureau.

Born and raised in Sydney, Ryan is a Cape Breton boy through and through. He is proud to be covering stories in his hometown, featuring the people and places he has grown up with.

Ryan graduated from Riverview High School in Coxheath, N.S. and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Cape Breton University. He graduated from the Media Arts Program at the Atlantic Media Institute in Halifax in 2008.

Ryan then made the move home to Sydney and was hired at 101.9 The GIANT and 103.5 The Eagle, where he honed his reporting skills for three years before joining the CTV news team in October 2011.

Ryan loves the immediacy of radio news, but says telling stories with pictures and working behind the camera made him see news in an entirely new way.

Ryan is married to Newfoundland native Jennifer Nolan. The two have a daughter, Alexa, and a dog named Daisy.

An avid runner, Ryan has completed three marathons and nine half-marathons and has his sights set on one day completing the renowned Boston Marathon.
