After three days of contract negations between Nova Scotia’s largest health authority and the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union Local 97, a mediator adjourned the session around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

A spokesperson for Capital Health says the nurses union has declined the health authority’s latest offer.

The proposal addressed changes to workload and scheduling issues.

NSGEU President Joan Jessome says, unless there's a safe level of staffing for patients, the union will not budge.

The union represents 2,400 registered nurses at Halifax-area hospitals. They will be in a legal strike position on April 3.

Capital Health says it will take legal action if inurses go through with mass resignations in the event they are legislated back to work.

Capital Health spokesperson John Gillis says talks could resume later in the week.
