Two people are in hospital after a collision between an SUV and a transport truck in Shelburne, N.S.

RCMP, along with firefighters and paramedics, responded to the collision at the intersection of Highway 103 and Ohio Road – also known as exit 26.

Police say a Chevrolet Equinox was turning onto the highway when it collided with a transport truck that was travelling eastbound.

The driver of the Equinox, a 67-year-old woman, and the passenger, a 64-year-old woman – who are both from Caledonia, N.S. – were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the transport truck, a 23-year-old man from Halifax, was not injured, according to a news release from RCMP.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Highway 103 was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
