A western New Brunswick high school’s hockey team has been suspended for the remainder of the season following questionable conduct at a party away from school property.

Administration at Woodstock High School say they ordered the suspension after hearing about some of the things that went on at the party, but would not go into details.

But students were willing to provide insight on what took place.

"It was a rookie party,” said Grade 11 student Kyra McLean. “They were all just supposed to gather around and have fun so it was basically for the rookies on the high school team."

Grade 11 student Kearstyn Rutherford says the decision didn’t come as a surprise.

“I know some poeple on that team and I know they're like party animals, but I just didn't expect that from them,” she said.

"I think that they should keep the hockey team because I think it's really good support,” said Grade 11 student Samantha Marston. “We have a really good support system at our school and I love going to watch the games. I feel bad for the rest of them that weren't a part of it."

The Anglophone West School District said it's the decision of the school and the province's Interscholastic Athletic Association, who would not provide details to CTV News. But the district didsay that they agreed with the decision made by Woodstock High.

Hockey New Brunswick said if a player from Woodstock High School wanted to now play for the minor hockey league, they would be allowed to.

Community members told CTV News they agree with the decision and hope it acts as an example to other schools with sports teams

Officials would not confirm with CTV News if this decision goes beyond this season.
