HALIFAX -- Halifax police say one of their officers suffered minor injuries Thursday after being dragged about nine metres by a truck during a traffic stop.

Police say the officer was beside a pickup truck he had stopped at about 12:15 a.m. Thursday for allegedly speeding on Portland Avenue.

Police allege that the driver was not licensed or insured.

They say the man started to drive away and the officer tried to stop him, but got caught and was dragged.

The officer pursued the driver, who was arrested a short time later and was facing several charges including assaulting a police officer and fleeing police.
