A pilot is in hospital with minor injuries after making an emergency landing in Pictou County.
The RCMP received a call about a small plane in distress around 8 a.m. Thursday. The caller said the plane had stalled and then landed in a field in the Fraser’s Mountain area.
The plane sustained some damage to its propeller and landing gear as it landed in the field, which was soft and muddy.
Paramedics removed the 72-year-old pilot from the plane. Officials say he sustained injuries to his lower back and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“He seemed to have a lot of bruises and bumps and scrapes,” says New Glasgow Fire Chief Doug Dort. “He was still conscious, talking when he left the scene and he was transported by EHS to the Aberdeen [hospital].”
The pilot was the only person inside the plane at the time.
The RCMP and Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash.
It’s not known what the plane was doing in the area, which is a short distance from an airport in nearby Trenton, N.S.
