'A gift this size is extraordinary': Family donates $1M to N.S. hospital
A hospital foundation in Dartmouth, N.S., received a significant donation on Wednesday to help advance innovative and exceptional care.
The Gasparetto family made a $1 million donation through the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation to help fund the Gasparetto Family MRI Suite. The gift will help with the purchase of cutting-edge equipment and technology.
“A gift of this size is extraordinary. We applaud the Gasparetto family and their remarkable success story that has been almost 60 years in the making,” said Dr. Natalie Cheng, medical site lead at the Dartmouth General Hospital.
“Maintaining leading edge health related equipment and technology takes a significant investment and this gift will allow us to advance health care.”
The donation was made in honour of Danilo and Renato Gasparetto, to commemorate the family’s journey from Treviso, Italy to Nova Scotia in the late 1960s.
“For a long time, my father and uncle had been struggling with where to donate a good sum of money that they’d been thinking about doing for a while and with all the things that are happening with health care and in Dartmouth – which is where they started and built their companies and they’re still here to this day – it was kind of a no brainer when the opportunity came up,” said Michael Gasparetto, director and executive secretary of Cherubini Metal Works.
“We’re very proud to be able to give this money and to help support health care in the region.”
