Halifax Regional Police say a 15-year-old boy is facing charges in connection with the death of an elderly woman.

They arrested the teen Sunday afternoon in Dartmouth. He is due to appear in youth court today on charges of first-degree murder, robbery, break and enter, and breach of conditions.

Officers were called to a home on Jackson Road in Dartmouth just before 2 p.m. Friday after a neighbour noticed the back door to the home had been kicked in and left open.

When they arrived they discovered the body of a woman in her 70s inside the home. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say her death has been ruled a homicide after an autopsy was conducted on Sunday. Her name has not been released.

A second man was also arrested in connection with the incident this morning and police say he is in custody.
