SYDNEY, N.S. - A team of health professionals is monitoring the Cape Breton District Health Authority's efforts to prevent further spread of Clostridium difficile.

Currently three of four inpatients have confirmed cases of C. difficile at the hospital's intermediate care unit.

Only one immediate family member or a next of kin is allowed to visit at a time.

Visitors to the unit will be asked to wear gloves and a gown as a precautionary measure and they must also check with unit staff before their visit.

The hospital said the district's outbreak team is meeting daily and that education of health care providers, patients and families on ways to prevent the spread of C. difficile is ongoing.
