Hundreds of people gathered in Dartmouth Wednesday evening in an effort to take back their streets.
Wednesday marked the 15th annual Dartmouth North Walk Against Violence.
The event was created in memory of Jason MacCullough, who was killed while walking through a pathway in the area in 1999.
MacCullough’s killer has never been found.
The event remains an emotional experience for many.
Ralston Bollard says many friends of his children have died due to violence. He was one of many who came out with posters and pictures in memory of those gone too soon.
"I think it's very important. Violence is getting worse all the time and we have to get it solved somehow,” says Bollard.
MacCullough was involved with the local Boys and Girls Club and the organization is always part of the event.
Members of the Halifax Regional Police were also in attendance.
Area residents were asked to leave their porch lights on as a sign of respect.
