More than 100 people were in attendance Saturday to watch the Glen Haven Manor and the Summer Street Industry Community Workshop’s version of 'Dancing with the Stars'.
“The funds that we raise go to support resident related activities,” said Glen Haven Manor CEO Lisa Smith. “But this year, we're even more excited because we've partnered with Summer Street to help support Pictou County Help Line.”
Arlis MacCallum of the Pictou County Help Line says they are trying to stay open until the end of May 2016, but can’t without help from the community.
“We don't really have the funds to stay open until then,” said MacCallum. “We're looking for community support for to keep us afloat.
The audience paid a dollar to vote for the winner of the dancing trophy.
Alana Rondeau, who is getting married next summer, was willing to dress the part for a good cause.
“It's just for the fun of it,” said Rondeau. “The residents all enjoy watching everyone dance, so I can embarrass myself for a couple minutes for somebody else's pleasure.”
According to judges, the event was a success.
“It's so much fun, and because it brings people out of their setting over at Glen Haven and it takes them into the community,” said host Shaun McLean.
The voting and fundraising will take place over the next few days. The winner will be announced later in the week with the funds going to local charities.
