Ace-chasers in Inverness, N.S. will have one more chance to find the coveted card before the fundraiser comes to an end next weekend.

Around 15,000 people flooded the small Cape Breton community Saturday with hopes of walking away $1.2 million richer.

Carol Hartling of Westville, N.S. held the lucky ticket that guaranteed her a paycheque of over $250,000. But after flipping the nine of hearts instead of the elusive ace of spades, the fundraiser will continue.

“I’m happy with what I got,” said Hartling. “It’s overwhelming. It’s exciting. I’m very grateful.”

Hartling is a waitress at Acropole Pizza in New Glasgow, mother of three and grandmother of five. She said she had big plans for the top jackpot, but is happy with how it turned out.

"I wanted to come get the ace, go home, and then go right to the Harley shop and buy a new motorcycle,” said Hartling. “But that ain't happening with this.”

The stage is now set for a thrilling finale week, with the winner walking away a millionaire.
