A military base in the Halifax area was locked down Monday for about an hour and 15 minutes after police received a report of a person with a gun.
Military police and the RCMP were on scene and searching the area surrounding 12-Wing Shearwater.
A military spokesperson says they were investigating an “active intruder on the wing.”
"The military police got an anonymous phone call of an armed individual, in the vicinity of the Canex here on the base," said public affairs officer Maj. Mark Gough.
This is the second time in as many weeks that police have responded to an anonymous call of an armed person on the base.
Military police and RCMP swarmed 12-Wing Shearwater on April 26 following reports of a person with a gun spotted near the gym on base. Monday’s lockdown did not last as long and did not require evacuations.
“They responded very quickly,” said Gough. “With conjunction with the RCMP, as per our normal standard procedures, they secured the area, did a search of the area, and didn't find anything suspicious."
The military won’t confirm whether Monday’s incident is related to the lockdown last month.
"At this point, we don't know,” said Gough. “Like any incident, it's under investigation. And like any incident of this nature, it's taken very seriously.”
