A week after the Boston Marathon bombings, runners in Halifax laced up their sneakers to show their support for the City of Boston.

Hundreds of local runners attended the run, which was largely organized through social media, in Halifax’s Point Pleasant Park Monday night.

Many wore blue and yellow – the official colours of the Boston Marathon.

Organizers also asked runners to leave their music devices at home so they could appreciate the peaceful atmosphere of the park and reflect on the bombing victims.

“Unfortunately, a lot of them will never run again and I think it’s important that us Nova Scotians support Boston because they supported us when we needed them,” says runner Susan Holloway.

Similar runs in support of the Boston Marathon victims were held in other Canadian cities including Ottawa, Montreal and Vancouver.

Three people died and more than 180 were injured after two bombs went off near the Boston Marathon finish line on April 15.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, and his brother Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19, are accused of placing the bombs at the event.

They also allegedly killed a security guard at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Thursday night before engaging in a shootout with police in the suburbs of Boston.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed in the standoff with police. Dzhokhar was captured Friday evening after a standoff with police.
