More than a day after 24-year-old Matthew Sudds was found dead in a Halifax park ditch forensic officers are still searching the area for evidence.
“An autopsy was performed late last night,” explains Theresa Rath of Halifax Regional Police. “Through that autopsy it was determined Mr. Sudds was the victim of a shooting.”
Police are not saying how many times or where Sudds was shot.
The victim is known to police and comes with a lengthy criminal record.
He was last in jail less than a year ago.
His name and picture were released in 2012 on a Halifax Most Wanted List in relation to an assault.
Police are trying to determine if Sudds was shot in the park or if his bodywas left there.
What officers do know is that he was last seen by family on Thursday afternoon.
Investigators are now trying to piece together what happened in the days and hours leading up to his death.
“Anyone who can shed some light on his movements, what he might have done,” says Rath. “We are really looking for information to piece together what might have happened.”
The area between Africville Park and a Halifax container terminal was closed all day.
Search and Rescue teams arrived Tuesday afternoon to help find additional evidence.
“We are looking for experts who can help with a thorough sweep of an area so we called them in for their expertise,” explains Rath.
Police are questioning friends and family for more information.
They are also following up on a number of leads as they search for those responsible in the city’s 6th homicide of the year.
