Halifax police are investigating after a man was assaulted and robbed in the downtown area early Sunday morning.

Halifax Regional Police say around 3:30 am some of their patrol members were flagged down by a man along Barrington Street.

The man told police that he was walking in the area of Salter Street and Barrington Street when he was assaulted by two men who stole his cell phone.

The suspects left the area in an unknown direction.

One suspect is described as a black man, around 25-years-old with a muscular build and wearing all black clothing. The second man is described as a white man wearing a grey t-shirt.

The 25-year-old victim was treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries.

Police are asking anyone who knows anything about the incident to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
