Police in New Glasgow, N.S., have arrested a man after he allegedly made multiple false calls to 911 earlier this week.

New Glasgow Regional Police says it received multiple 911 calls from a man reporting an ongoing firearms-related incident near the intersection of Marsh and Temperance streets just before 1 a.m. on Dec. 30.

The man also allegedly made a call impersonating a police officer to obtain information about the investigation.

Police say they later determined the firearm incident was false and the man was not a police officer.

The 57-year-old was then found and arrested on Washington Street.

He was charged with:

  • impersonating a police officer
  • public mischief

Police say they later received information about an incident at the man’s home before he called 911.

He was arrested again and also charged with:

  • forcible confinement
  • assault
  • resisting arrest
  • failure to comply with undertaking

The man is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in Pictou provincial court at a later date. His name has not been released.
