Share

A man who barricaded himself inside a home in the Porters Lake, N.S., area Thursday morning has died.

The RCMP released an update on X at 12:30 p.m., stating the man was found dead inside the home.

“The RCMP remains at the home continuing its investigation, with assistance of the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service,” said police. “Our thoughts are with the man's family at this difficult time.”

Investigators have not said how the man died or released his identity.

Police responded to the home in the 1300 block of West Porters Lake Road Thursday morning after learning a man who was believed to be armed had barricaded himself inside.

Police said there was no one else inside the home and no immediate threat to the public, but they were asking neighbours to stay inside their homes as a precaution.

The RCMP closed West Porters Lake Road between Greenough Drive and Capri Drive and were asking motorists to avoid the area.

At 9:30 a.m., the RCMP said the power had been turned off in the area due to the police operation. Nova Scotia Power also confirmed there was an emergency outage in the area “at the request of first responders,” leaving thousands of customers in the dark.

Shortly after 10 a.m., Nova Scotia Power said power had been restored to the area.

No other details about the incident have been released at this time.
