N.S. musician Harmz drops holiday-themed EP
Fresh off a big win at the Music Nova Scotia Music and Industry Awards, hip-hop artist Harmz is releasing a holiday-themed EP.
“I think just after Halloween, I’m like, (producer Alex LeBlanc), let’s put out a Christmas project,” Harmz told CTV News Atlantic’s Katie Kelly. “I pitched it to him and he was like, you know what, let’s do it.”
“It was crunch time but we made it happen,” LeBlanc said.
Unlike typical Christmas albums, “Mistletoe Moments,” features original songs along with some interpolations. It also sees Harmz venturing into new creative territories.
“I am predominantly a hip-hop artist and this project is actually me diving into more of the pop kind of side of things,” Harmz said. “I’m singing a lot here and it’s high energy.
“It’s different from what I really usually do and I feel like I needed to take this step of change to try to break out of my comfort zone.”
Harmz, who won the Hip Hop/Rap Recording of the Year award last month, is hopeful fans will make the new album a regular part of their holidays.
“I see people enjoying a meal and listening to the project,” he said. “I see people wrapping presents and listening to my project.
“I like the holiday so much because it means a lot to me as a kid growing up. Just being around good, positive vibes just makes me so happy.”
