Three people are in hospital with serious injuries after a vehicle left the road in Cape Breton Monday night.

Victoria County District RCMP and emergency crews responded to the single-vehicle crash on Highway 105 in St. Patrick’s Channel, N.S., around 9 p.m.

Police say a Nissan Qashqai was travelling east when it left the road and struck a culvert near Abershore Road.

The 34-year-old male driver and a 36-year-old female passenger were both taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Another passenger, a 33-year-old woman, sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to hospital.

Police say all three are from Wagmatcook.

Highway 105 was closed for several hours. It has since reopened.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
