A New Brunswick man who was repeatedly bitten by a dog last week says the SPCA has still not followed up on his complaint, and is looking for answers.

Dennis Porter says he was trying to save a cat that was being chased by a German shepherd, when the dog turned on him.

“Had this been a small child, there would've been no chance,” said Porter. “I probably got four to five puncture wounds, I have two large lacerations on my wrist and a couple of lacerations up the forearm.”

Porter says the RCMP responded shortly after the incident, but he's heard nothing since then. He says he hasn’t heard from the SPCA, either.

“I'm not certain whether the dog is alive at this point, or whether the dog was sick,” he said. “It’s hard to say because we don't have contact with anybody who will give us information.”

Porter went to the hospital and received a tetanus shot and is now on antibiotics, but he's been waiting to see if he requires a round of shots to prevent rabies.

“Why should you go through that if you don't have to go through that?” says Porter’s wife, Denise Porter. “I wouldn't have to go through that, but I’m on my own here.”

The New Brunswick SPCA says they are aware of the alleged incident and of Porter's complaint. They say the matter remains under investigation.

But Porter says he's done waiting, and will be getting the rabies shot regardless. He still wants to know what, if anything, will happen to the dog and its owners.
