New Brunswick's premier has announced that the province's minimum wage will increase from $10.30 per hour to $10.65 per hour on April 1st.

Brian Gallant says the move will put more money into people's pockets and create a positive effect on the economy.

It comes after legislation was tabled last week reflecting an agreement between the three Maritime provinces to align their respective minimum wage increases.

Gallant says aligning the timing of the increases will reduce costs for businesses that operate in more than one province.
