HALIFAX -- Nova Scotia's Progressive Conservatives say they will freeze power rates for five years if they come to power.
The pledge is contained in a policy paper released by party Leader Jamie Baillie.
Under the plan Baillie says the Tories would also buy renewable electricity within current rates, use more natural gas and create a Maritime energy grid.
Baillie also says the province's current requirement to have 40 per cent of power generated from renewable sources by 2020 should be pushed back five years.
He says the plan details how to move the province to a new mix of energy at a pace it can afford.
Baillie says the overall goal is to give residential and business customers a break from skyrocketing power rates.
