HALIFAX -- The federal government is giving nearly $900,000 to a Halifax university this year to help new graduates find jobs and to improve the business climate in Nova Scotia.
Justice Minister Peter MacKay made the announcement at Saint Mary's University today.
The Sobey School Business Development Centre will receive more than $620,000 to fund paid internships throughout Atlantic Canada for 40 new post-secondary graduates.
The placements will be in what are described as "high-demand fields," including rubber, plastics and chemicals, fabricated metal, and computer system design services.
The Sobey School Business Development Centre will also receive $275,000 to provide business development counselling and consulting services to potential and existing small- and medium-sized businesses.
The funding is being provided through the government's Youth Employment Strategy and the business development program of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
