Beloved Pictou County fiddler Fleur Mainville has passed away after a long battle with cancer.

Mainville, 37, was first diagnosed with carcinoid cancer in 2008. The cancer returned in September 2014 and she passed away Wednesday.

The radio host, fiddle teacher and farm market manager has long been a household name in Pictou County and condolences are pouring in on social media.

"Too soon," said Cental Nova MP Peter MacKay in a tweet. "A rare flower our cherished Fleur Mainville is in Heaven (tonight.) She will be missed & mourned by multitudes."

Many friends, fans and Pictou County residents are changing their Facebook profile pictures to a flower in honour of the fiddler.

Mainville leaves behind her husband Andrew Heighton and two adopted children.
