Halifax Regional Police and Halifax District RCMP have charged two people in connection with a homicide that occurred in Lake Echo on April 10.
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of 38-year-old Steven Skinner, who faces a charge of second-degree murder. Police say Skinner is known to them, and they don't believe he is in the Halifax area.
"We have requested a Canada-wide warrant and we'll be providing that info to police agencies across Canada," says Const. Brian Palmeter. "Obviously, if information leads us in other directions, we'll be following that up as well."
Police arrested 23-year-old Brittany Derbyshire, whom they referred to as Skinner's "associate," Friday afternoon in connection with the homicide. She was questioned by investigators and faces a charge of accessory after the fact.
The charges stem from the death of Stacey Jordan Adams of Dartmouth. The 20-year-old was shot and killed in Lake Echo.
Police were called to a home on Shadewell Lane, just off of the Mineville Road, where they found Adams' body inside a parked car.
Investigators say Adams' death was not a random act and they believe it is connected to drugs and ongoing issues of violence in the Halifax area.
