It’s a salty job -- a group of women in Yarmouth, N.S., can often be found scrubbing the decks of boats, but they're not sailors.
It’s a job lined with sea water and the smell of fresh caught fish, but Jana Jeffery and her cleaning dream team say they’re up for the challenge.
"We clean lobster boats, that's what we're most known for," says Jeffrey.
They’re professional cleaners with a very specific niche for cleaning lobster boats. The group says it’s a job that’s in high demand especially during the lobster fishing season which runs from the end of November to May.
Jeffrey started the company in 2014 with the goal of giving fishermen the feeling of home while sailing the rugged Atlantic.
"They want to have this clean environment because they spend a large majority of their life on their boat… it's just like their home,” says Jeffrey.
Sam Comeau has been cleaning with Jeffrey for years and trains new cleaners who come aboard. Her number one tip: don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty.
"For myself, it's kind of getting into the small spaces, but we maneuver our way around there and get the job done,” she says.
The women say the job comes with its challenges, but they’re used to working in windy conditions too rough for boats to go out to sea.
"The boat's rocking back and forth and it might be snowing and there might be ice on the ladder, so we have to be really careful getting on and off the boat,” Jeffrey says.
The group full of spunk and motivation are continuing to set bait for the remaining months of this lobster season.
