MONCTON, N.B. -- Police are investigating the sudden death of an inmate at a prison in New Brunswick.
An official at the Dorchester Penitentiary says staff began performing CPR on Matthew Hines after he was found in need of medical attention Tuesday.
Penitentiary spokeswoman Nadine Boucher says the 33-year-old was taken to the Moncton Hospital, but was pronounced dead just after midnight.
Foul play was ruled out following an autopsy, but an investigation into the cause of death is continuing.
Boucher says Hines had been serving a sentence of five years since 2010 for several offences, including robbery, mischief and theft under $5,000.
Correctional Service Canada says it will review the incident, and the police and coroner were notified as in all cases involving the death of an inmate.
