Police are investigating a stabbing incident near a high school in the Halifax area.

Investigators say a 15-year-old boy was stabbed multiple times during an altercation on a pathway behind Cole Harbour District High School.

Police say the teen is not a student at the school.

“Shortly before 2 p.m., RCMP got called to a pathway near Cole Harbour High. There was some sort of altercation between a couple of youth when one male, we believe, was stabbed,” says RCMP Cpl. Scott MacRae.

Police say the suspect(s) fled the scene after the attack.

The victim was rushed to the Dartmouth General Hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators have blocked the pathway with police tape and a K9 unit is assisting in the investigation.

No arrests have been made at this time.

“We are looking for what we believe are the people that were involved in the altercation. Who did what or who is responsible, that is still a matter for the police to determine,” says MacRae.

“There’s two main parties for sure but there was talk of a third person but again, early on in the investigation, I don’t want to start speculating.”

Doug Hadley, a spokesperson for the Halifax Regional School Board, says the pathway isn’t technically on school property but is frequented by students.

“There’s a soccer field next to the school. It happened behind the soccer field so it is in close proximity to the school,” says Hadley. “It’s near a path that connects both the high school to the recreation and community centre that’s on the other side of the soccer field so it is an area that students do use often as they’re travelling to and from school.”

He says it wasn’t necessary for the school to go on lockdown because the students had already been dismissed for the day.

“The school just wants to reassure parents that what happened here is not something that was connected to the school and they don’t have a reason to believe that their children are in any way in danger,” says Hadley.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
