Three brothers were inseparable on their wedding day Saturday, as they came together from across Canada for a single, triple-ring ceremony in Summerside, P.E.I.
It started as an offhand joke and turned into an unforgettable day for the Desroches family. They said it all began when brothers Stephen, David, and Robert found themselves engaged at the same time.
“We were all talking about marriage at the time, and then first it was two that said well, let's get married, then the third one said , well let's just go and do the whole thing all at once and get three of them together,” said Robert.
The trio grew up in Prince Edward Island, but have since moved to New Brunswick and Ontario. They said despite the distance, the group has remained very close, so their wedding planning ran smoothly.
“We had a lot on conference calls from Ontario to New Brunswick where we had the six of us all on the phone at the same time having discussions and planning, talking things over, making some decisions,” said David.
They said their dream became a reality after they were all told “you can kiss your new brides," Saturday.
Stephen Desroches married his high school sweetheart Christine.
“It's exciting,” said Stephen. “I’m glad we decided to do it, we're all close so it made for a beautiful day.”
David Desroches and his bride Joanne have been together for more than a decade and he says their wedding day was everything that he had hoped it would be.
“To see your other two brothers getting married at the same time, we've known Christine and Joanne for a long time too, too see everything all come together, it just all came to reality,” said David. “We’ve been waiting for this day for so long.”
The unique ceremony also came at a time special for the Desroches family as it was on the heels of their parents Doris and Elmer’s 65th wedding anniversary.
“What a celebration,” said Doris. “We're very proud of them, one of the best days of our lives.”
The couples said they wouldn't change a thing about their special day but they decided to wrap their happily-ever-afters up with separate honeymoons.
