FREDERICTON -- Two people in New Brunswick have been charged following a year-long investigation into the smuggling of prohibited weapons.
Police and the Canada Border Services Agency executed warrants on a home in Fredericton Tuesday and seized a number of weapons including guns, knives and a crossbow.
Kyle Benjamin Vickers, 39, of Fredericton has been charged under the Customs Act for smuggling or attempting to smuggle prohibited weapons into Canada, and possessions of goods that are prohibited from entry into Canada.
The CBSA says it began its investigation after getting information that someone was purchasing prohibited weapons over the Internet.
Vickers and 34-year-old Laura Ann Wilson of Fredericton are both charged with 13 counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled substance, seven firearms and weapons related offences, and one count of possession of property obtained by crime.
Both have been remanded into custody and are to return to court on Friday.
