The union representing teachers in Prince Edward Island says its members are pleased by a recent decision to reverse teaching job cuts.
The union representing 1,700 teachers walked away from negotiations with the provincial government on June 25.
At the time, Prince Edward Island Teachers' Federation past-president Gilles Arsenault said the government’s decision to cut dozens of teaching jobs had more to do with politics than declining enrolment.
On Wednesday, union president Bethany MacLeod said she’s pleased to learn the 28 teaching positions originally targeted will not be cut.
“The PEITF’s meetings with government at the end of June were instrumental in these positions being returned to Island schools,” she said.
“We were confident at those meetings that the 28 positions would be returned.”
