Nova Scotia Health Minister Leo Glavine will tour the Centennial Building of the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax on Monday, hoping to get things back to normal after a flood occurred in the building Thursday night.
The Centennial Building flooded from the fifth floor down on one side after a pipe burst.
"Our maintenance folks will start with others to assess the level of moisture,” said operations executive director Vicky Sullivan. “Based on their assessment, we will have a better understanding of the impact.”
Sullivan says 36 inpatient beds and the 11 beds in the intensive care unit have been impacted.
Only a third of the regular amount of patients in the eye care clinic will be seen on Monday. Intensive care has been transferred to the Halifax Infirmary.
Some surgeries scheduled for Monday in the Centennial Building have been postponed.
“We're doing an increased number of day surgeries, meaning that people don't have to stay overnight, and then looking at the patients that we can do for surgery that require admission," said Sullivan.
Some parts of the Centennial Building cannot be repaired, so the health authority says it will have to come up with a new plan.
A complete picture of the condition of the building is not expected until late this week.
