A Nova Scotia woman remains in hospital in serious condition after she was mauled by a dog in Yarmouth Saturday.

The 45-year-old woman walked into a house on Main Street when a dog in the home attacked her and it continued to attack her as she made her way outside.

Two police officers, who were nearby, responded to the call and pulled the 35 kilogram dog off of the woman, then shot and killed it. The dog is believed to be a pit bull or a pit bull mix.

The victim suffered serious bites over most of her body, especially to her upper body and face.

She was airlifted from Yarmouth to Halifax Saturday, where she was listed in critical condition.

Her condition has been upgraded to serious.
