Five people are facing charges after Halifax Regional Police conducted a traffic stop and searched a home in Dartmouth Wednesday.

Halifax Regional Police pulled over a vehicle on John Savage Drive and arrested its two occupants – a 22-year-old man and a 23-year-old man – before 5 p.m.

Minutes later, police executed a search warrant at a home in the 200 block of Windmill Road and arrested an 18-year-old woman, a 21-year-old woman and a 22-year-old woman.

The officers seized a quantity of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, bear spray and a loaded, prohibited firearm from the home.

Four people are due to appear in Dartmouth provincial court Thursday to face weapons-related charges.

The 21-year-old woman was released Wednesday evening and is due to appear in court at a later date to face weapons charges.

Police say drug charges have not been laid at this time, but the investigation is ongoing.

Police also say the arrests were part of an ongoing investigation, but they don’t believe the investigation is related to a recent string of gun violence in the Halifax area.
