HALIFAX -- A Halifax psychiatrist accused of taking naked photos of a teenage patient has had his licence taken away and cannot apply to practice in the province again.

In a settlement agreement, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia said Curtis Steele agreed to surrender his licence and admitted to professional misconduct.

The settlement says Steele took photos of a 14-year-old girl who was referred to him after showing rage towards her parents, who were friends of the doctor's.

The settlement says Steele saw the girl for eight sessions between December 2003 and the following December before she filed a complaint with the college in September 2013.

It also says he prescribed a medication without making a diagnosis to support it.

The agreement says Steele will also pay $5,000 toward the college's costs.
