Kristie Thebeau and Kyle Simpson are the couple you swoon over.

The lovebirds from Stratford, P.E.I. are preparing to tie the knot on June 26. The combination of wedding costs and their purchase of a new house, however, have caused them some financial difficulty.

“Weddings are expensive and we just bought a house, so right now we don’t plan on having much of a honeymoon,” says Simpson, 27.

But Wedding Bells magazine may be their saving grace.

Thebeau and Simpson have been narrowed down as semi-finalists in the wedding magazine’s Canada’s Cutest Couple contest. The prize is an all-inclusive trip for two to the Grand Sirenis Mayan Beach Hotel & Spa in Riviera Maya, and their wedding photo featured in the Real Weddings section of Wedding Bells magazine.

The couple submitted a two-minute video in March and found out soon after that they were chosen for the top five. Thebeau says she and Simpson beat out over 100 people to receive the semi-final spot.

“We ended up making a 45-minute video and had to narrow it down to two,” says Thebeau, 26. “It was a lot of bantering, and way too many details.”

Thebeau and Simpson say their relationship has always been one that others look up to.

“Oftentimes I’m having nights with my girlfriends and they’re talking about things their husbands do or things that irk them and I’m usually the one sitting there quietly with nothing to say,” says Thebeau.

“We have this great, open line of communication and we just get along really, really well. It’s astonishing sometimes.”

Thebeau and Simpsonare the only remaining Maritime couple.

“I feel like East Coasters are so good at coming together and rooting for each other,” says Thebeau. “So I feel we can pull this off.”

The public is eligible to vote until April 27.

“I’d like to think we’re Canada’s Cutest Couple,” says Simpson. “I’d say we stand a chance for sure.”
