Nova Scotia’s Progressive Conservatives are demanding answers after $42,000 was spent renovating One Government Place, where the premier’s office is located.

According to Premier Stephen McNeil and documents obtained by the provincial Tories, a large open space was created by removing four offices on the seventh floor and a small new board room was built.

McNeil pointed out there have been no changes to the premier’s office since John Hamm was premier.

“We have some members who were part of my office, the civil service who were up on the sixth floor, and then we had, in order to, instead of making more offices, we just tore them down because we wanted to have the people that were there to be a more free-style open entity,” says McNeil.

However, Tory MLA Tim Houston believes the renovations are extravagant.

“It’s not necessary. There’s no need to spend $42,000 of taxpayers’ money on that purpose at this point,” says Houston.

The Progressive Conservatives are also frustrated they had to pay $90 to obtain the information about the renovations through Access to Information.
