An 18-year-old woman charged in connection with a crash that claimed the life of a Grand Manan, N.B. teen last summer has been sentenced to two years probation.

The woman, who cannot be named because she was 17 at the time of the incident, had pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous driving causing death and three counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.

Police responded to the Whistle Road area on Grand Manan on July 13, 2014. They said a minivan carrying five teens left Whistle Road, rolled over and landed on its roof in the ditch.

One of the passengers, 17-year-old Danielle Shaw Park, died at the scene. Two other girls and two boys, all from Grand Manan, were taken to hospital and later released.

The driver was sentenced Tuesday in Grand Manan provincial court to two years probation.

She is also banned from driving for five years and has been ordered to perform 150 hours of community service.
