SUSSEX, N.B. -- A section of a highway in New Brunswick was shut down after a tractor trailer carrying empty natural gas tanks flipped on its side and caught fire.
Penobsquis Fire Chief Milburn Rossiter says emergency crews were called to scene on Highway 1 near Sussex around 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
Rossiter says the cab of the truck and its tires caught on fire following the crash, but the driver escaped unharmed.
He says a four kilometre stretch of the highway was closed for about 10 hours as crews battled the blaze and cleaned up the scene.
Rossiter says multiple fire departments were called to help as well as hazmat teams and the province's Environment Department.
The cause of the initial crash is under investigation.
