HALIFAX -- Police say violent crime in Halifax fell in the first two quarters of 2012 compared to the same period last year while some thefts were on the rise.
Halifax Regional Police and RCMP released crime statistics Monday following a meeting of the board of police commissioners.
In a press release, they say overall crime dipped approximately 10 per cent.
Violent crime, including homicides, robberies and assaults, fell more than 15 per cent, while there was a nearly seven per cent decrease in property crime.
However, police say there was an increase in thefts over and under $5,000, particularly thefts from vehicles.
