Halifax Regional Police say they have no new information in their latest Halifax-area homicide investigation, but CTV News has learned more about the man who was found dead in the trunk of a car.
Police say the body of 26-year-old Tylor McInnis was found in the trunk of a stolen car in a cemetery in North Preston on Tuesday.
McInnis may be the community's latest homicide victim, but his family wants people to know he was much more than a victim of violence.
In a statement to CTV News, his mother says, “Tylor was a very kindhearted man, no problems with anyone. He was a coach at the YMCA. He would even do without just so you could have it. He would even give you the shirt off his back. Tylor was a very special person. He touched a lot of lives."
Tylor McInnis had a criminal record, but friends and family say that shouldn't be the focus. His mother says he was a loving son, an excellent father and a beloved brother who loved his family very much.
“I don't have to know someone personally to feel as hurt as I am, and it's heartbreaking because I’m so passionate about what I do. And so I’ve been really frustrated and upset over the past few days,” says Quentrel Provo, who started an organization called "Stop the Violence" after he lost his cousin in 2012. He didn't know Tylor McInnis personally, but says that doesn't matter.
“We need to stand up and take back our community and start to get vocal and unite together and find solutions,” says Provo, who is from North Preston. “That's his past and his past didn't kill him. He didn't deserve to die. No one deserves to die.”
No arrests have been made, and the RCMP say they have no suspects.
“It's very important that people take ownership and help us solve this crime,” says Nova Scotia RCMP Cpl. Dal Hutchinson.
Police are asking for information from anyone who may have seen anything in the area of Upper Governor Street from 9 p.m. Monday to 2 p.m. Tuesday.
