The highly anticipated forensic audit of expense claims in Nova Scotia's Richmond County has found the chief administrator expensed multiple visits to a Texas strip club.
The report examines $800,000 in credit card and expense claims by municipal staff and councillors between April 2011 and March of this year.
The most notable finding was two nights and nearly $600 charged to the municipality by CAO Warren Olson for his time at an adult entertainment club in Houston.
Other purchases include just under $8,000 in alcohol by councillors and staff.
On the streets of St. Peter's, many people were not happy with the findings.
“I think it's disgusting,” said resident Mireya Gonzalez. “It's money that should be helping people that really need it, like single mothers that cannot afford to buy groceries.”
Accounting firm Grant Thorton found 73 per cent of transactions were not supported by detailed receipts.
Minister Zach Churchill says there's a need for more transparent system of posting expenses.
“If there are changes that we can bring in around expenses that we can bring in around expenses to ensure that there is a standardized level of accountability and transparency that our partners and our municipal partners can be very proud of, then we’re going to do that.
