The RCMP say the body of a missing 22-year-old New Brunswick man has been found inside his car in a lake not far from his home.
Police say they received a call around 8 a.m. Wednesday that a vehicle had been found in a lake off Sand Point Road near Randall Corner, N.B.
Police confirmed the car belonged to Mitchell Veenhuis, and later confirmed that his body was found inside the vehicle.
Veenhuis was last seen on Oct. 14. His mother told CTV News last week that he left his apartment around 8:30 p.m. and told his roommate he would be back in 30 minutes, but he never returned.
Randall Corner is located roughly eight kilometres from Maquapit Lake, where Veenhuis lived.
Friends of the family gathered near the lake, bringing food and offering support.
Veenhuis’ friends and family launched an extensive search, scouring the woods near his home and other areas of New Brunswick, after he disappeared. The search also expanded to Nova Scotia’s Pictou County, where he grew up.
The RCMP say an autopsy will be performed.
